What is acne
For unknown reasons, follicles of the skin tend to overproduce cells sometimes resulting in them becoming blocked. Each follicle has a hair and an oil gland which then produces sebum (oil). Bacteria and dirt start building up which results in comedones or plugs.
If the comedone is black, then it is known as a blackhead; if on the contrary it is white, it is known as a whitehead.
Inflammatory acne can appear if a break occurs in the wall of the follicle. Because of this pimples, papules and cysts can be formed. This type of acne can occur spontaneously or by picking or touching the area of skin.

Types of Acne Scarring Treatment
Medium strength chemical |
What is it? A chemical peel reacts with the very top layer of the skin forcing it to come away, thus revealing a smoother, healthier and a blemish free complexion underneath. New cells are made as the skin heals and there is greater collagen production. This results in a youthful and rejuvenated look. TCA peels (trichloroacetic acid) of 20-30% can be used in order to improve acne ice pick and box scars or for full face resurfacing. By combining this with a dermaroller treatment, you can see even better results in cell growth and reorganisation of the skin, leading to healthier skin layers. |
Obagi Blue peel |
What is it? A low dose of the chemical trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is mixed with a special blue base and is tailored to your skin’s specific needs by controlling the depth of the peel and also the number of coats. This in turn removes thin layers of aged and damaged skin from the face and other parts of the body. This is a simple procedure which lasts around 20 minutes. Within 2 to 3 days the skin then starts to peel and can last up to 10 days. Not only is this peel very effective in removing acne scars, after the skin has finished peeling a great improvement in the complexion of the skin can be noticed. This will continue to improve over 4 to 6 weeks. The treatment can be repeated every 6 to 8 weeks until the desired goals are reached. |
Augmentation |
What is it? A fine needle is used in order to inject filler into the atrophic scar to lift the depression. For this treatment different types of fillers can be used and are not usually permanent. This usually painless as a local anaesthetic is applied in advance. |
Skin boosters |
What is it? The fillers used are made of hyaluronic acid and are injected deep into the dermis of the skin. The treatment restores hydrobalance of the skin, plumps up acne scarring, improves structure and elasticity. Usually you need 4 treatments every four weeks. However, optimum results are usually obtained after the completion of all sessions. |
Dermaroller |
What is it? The medical dermaroller utilises a special micro needling process in order to stimulate the production of the body’s own collagen. Through this treatment, the new collagen fibres fill atrophic scars and thicken the skin. |
Obagi Nu-derm system |
What is it? The Nu-Derm System represents an anti-ageing therapy which was specially formulated to penetrate below the skin’s surface in order to transform cell functions at the cellular level and also correct the skin damage from within, revealing healthy and younger-looking skin. |
*Treatments are bespoke for every individual and results may vary.
