‘Skin Rejuvenation using your own plasma’ also known as PRP therapy has been used in many medical specialties over the past 30 years. These include cardiac surgery, sports medicine, wounds care, neurosurgery, general surgery, dentistry, orthopaedics and cosmetics.
The end result is an appearance which looks significantly younger or quicker healing of scars and wounds. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is obtained from your blood. This includes platelets which work in the body in order to repair damage by clogging up tears and cuts. Platelets also have growth factors on the surface which stimulate collagen production when they are injected into the skin tissue.
PRP is injected into the skin in order to stimulate new collagen production and also to re-energise your cells into rejuvenating themselves. The treatment can be used as an anti-ageing treatment. It can also be combined with Derma-roller or mixed with Dermal fillers, anti-oxidants and vitamins for a more superior result. It can be used everywhere on the body – for hair loss, face, neck, décolleté, elbows, knees, stretch marks, scars and wounds.
HOW DOES PRP TREATMENT WORK?
The treatment starts with a small amount of blood being taken from your arm in the same way as a standard blood sample. This is then placed in a centrifuge and is spun in order to separate the plasma from the other blood components, thus producing a platelet rich plasma. It is then injected back into the patient’s site of injury, scars, skin or visible lines and wrinkles. It is injected around the desired site utilising a very small sterile needle. This treatment is an accomplished procedure which is 100% natural and does not use any animal derivative or foreign material.
Research shows that PRP obtained from the patient’s blood is safe, with also very minimal risk of complications and allergic reactions. As these platelets are obtained from the patient’s own blood, there is also no risk of disease transmission or risk of rejection.
AREAS OF TREATMENT:
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
Improvement in the skin texture and tone are noticeable within 3 weeks after the treatment. Full collagen regeneration can take up to 3 months. Mild swelling may be seen immediately. Over the days and weeks, these platelets will release growth factors and pre stem cells into the body which will assist in more collagen growth.*
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Responses to treatment can vary, but most conditions will require 1 to 3 sessions usually 4 to 6 weeks apart. The results of this treatment can last up to 18 months. There is no limit to the number of treatments one can have for maintaining youth and skin rejuvenation, but touch up treatments will maintain the results. Wounds and scars can be fully treated after 1-3 sessions.*
